Replacing Your Roof: Explore Your Options

Blog

Has your home's roof seen better days? Perhaps you've begun to experience problems, such as roof leaks or drafts. If so, and if your traditional roof is more than 10 years old, then it may be time for a complete roof replacement. Of course, when it comes to replacing your roof, you don't necessarily have to choose the same roofing type; you have options! Take some time to assess the potential pros and cons of each option to determine the option that's right for your needs.

Asphalt Shingle Roofing

If you have a "traditional" shingle roof right now, then asphalt shingle roofing is what you have. This is the most common roofing material used in residential homes. Asphalt is a popular material because it's relatively inexpensive yet still does a great job at protecting and even insulating your home. At the same time, asphalt shingles can also "shed" their granules into your gutters over time, which can result in clogged gutters and premature wear and tear on your roof.

Asphalt shingle roofing is one of the most budget-friendly options on the market, so this may be a good idea if you're on a tight budget for roof replacement. On the other hand, asphalt roofing may not last as long as some other types.

Wooden Shingle Roofing

When you're looking for a roofing option that's a little "outside the box," wooden shingle roofing can be a great choice. It is installed in a similar manner to asphalt shingle roofing, but instead of asphalt, the individual shingles are made of wood (usually cedar or redwood). These shingles can achieve a much more aesthetically pleasing appearance for your roof, making this a popular choice among homeowners who want a more unique look and curb appeal. Wooden shingle roofing is quite durable and lasts about as long as an asphalt roof, but it does require a bit more routine maintenance to prevent rotting and moisture issues.

Metal Roofing

If you're looking for the most durable and long-lasting roof option on the market, metal roofing is a great choice. It does cost more up-front than any other type of roof, but it's cost-effective when you consider the longevity. This can be a great choice for those who are looking to never replace their roof again and who don't mind a more modern or industrial look on the exterior of their home than traditional shingles offer.

I decided to upgrade my own windows a few years ago, which is why I made this blog. Here, I have collected loads of information about window types, features, and styles, so that you don't have to guess when it comes to your brand new window installation. By using this information, your home can look better than ever.
